Google AdWords: Your Website Performance Does Matter

A Recent Update To Google AdWord’s Quality Score

Starting in February this year, Google AdWords started factoring in your landing page performance (speed of load time) into your quality score. This means the performance of your website will impact how much you have to pay for each click and how you rank on those keywords.

Starting in April, they will start reporting the quality scores back to you on the Keyword Analysis Page.

My Landing Pages Are Slow - What should I do?

Clearly, the performance of your website is a critical aspect of the user experience. With the new Google AdWords update, it will now even impact your PPC campaigns.

There are several great tools you can use to help you understand and improve your website’s performance.

My favorites include:

  • YSlow
  • YSlow is an excellent tool from Yahoo that helps diagnose common performance issues with your web page. It provides a great way for identifying easy performance fixes for your website (e.g. enabling compression).

  • Pingdom
  • Pingdom is a good tool for monitoring your website’s uptime and performance. You can run a basic test to see how large your pages are, and the load times for each component within the page.
